AggieTEACH

Points of Entry

The aggieTEACH Program is designed to help students obtain secondary teacher certification during their undergraduate experience at Texas A&M.

While it is certainly more helpful for students to decide earlier than later that they would like to pursue teacher certification with their undergraduate degree, students have several options to consider depending on what program best meets their needs.

The following options, in addition to the aggieTEACH Program, are available to all Texas A&M students who wish to obtain teacher certification:

Secondary Graduate Certification Program
(Post-Baccalaureate)

The Secondary Post-Baccalaureate Certification Program (8-12) is designed for those candidates who have completed or will complete a baccalaureate degree and desire initial certification to teach in Texas public schools at the secondary level. The certification program requires the completion of twenty-one (21) graduate semester credit hours and the successful completion of the appropriate State examinations and a full-year public school internship is required of all students. Most candidates have completed the internship requirement through a paid teaching position.

ACCELERATE
(On Campus and Online)

The Texas A&M University accelerated certification program for teaching, Accelerate, is an innovative approach to preparing secondary science and mathematics teachers for the state of Texas. Certification may be obtained in secondary (grades 8-12) Mathematics, Life Science, Physical Science, Science, Social Studies, History, and Language Arts. The program is designed to provide graduates and professionals possessing science and mathematics related degrees, as well as students late in their undergraduate careers, with an accelerated online program of educator preparation that can be completed in 12-18 months.
