CHEMISTRY

Students majoring in chemistry can obtain a secondary teaching certificate to teach physical science (with a chemistry core) in grades 8-12.  Students in chemistry are encouraged to select the Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry degree program.

Click on the titles below for printer-friendly degree plans and field plans.

The chemistry teacher certification degree plan intends to make the best possible use of core curriculum, free electives, and chemistry electives thereby including all of the certification requirements into the degree plan. Students majoring in chemistry who intend to teach will have their certification in physical science with a chemistry core. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry also provides several free electives to be chosen by the student as well as incorporating all requirements for the degree and teacher certification.

This degree plan is for catalog 130 - applicable to students entering Texas A&M University in 2007-2008 academic year. If another catalog applies to you, please see the MASS Coordinator or your academic advisor for the degree plan appropriate for your catalog.

Most commonly called a "field plan”, this document will be submitted to the College of Education upon admittance into the professional phase of teacher certification (typically in the junior year).  These courses are included in your degree plan and are those courses specifically required by the state for you to be a certified teacher.

If you are not a chemisry major and want to teach chemistry or physical sciences at the high school level, please contact the aggieTEACH Program Coordinator to discuss your options.
