Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join the aggieTEACH Program?
Anyone who wants to teach math or science at the secondary level can be a part of the aggieTEACH Program.

Is there a certain GPR required to be a part of the aggieTEACH Program?
No, there is not a specific GPR required to be a part of the aggieTEACH Program. However, to be recommended for certification upon graduation, you must have a 2.5 overall GPR and a 2.5 in your major field courses.

Do I have to join aggieTEACH as a freshman?
No, you do not have to join aggieTEACH as a freshman; however, the aggieTEACH Program is designed for students to get their degree in their major and teacher certification in 4 years with no additional hours. If you do not decide until later that you'd like to teach, there may be additional courses and hours required beyond the degree plan and it may take longer than the typical four years to complete the program.

Do I have to major in Biology, Chemistry, Math or Physics?
No. Most students major in one of these areas as these are the major certification areas and our degree plans are tailored to these majors. However, you can be a different major and pursue secondary certification in math or science with aggieTEACH. Please contact the Program Coordinator to learn more about your options if this is something you are considering.

What if I'm not sure I want to be a teacher but want to keep my options open or have certification as a "back-up"?
Then the aggieTEACH Program is perfect for you! You will graduate with a BA or BS in your field (depending on your major) AND teacher certification. You can then choose to either teach or pursue another profession with your degree - more options is always a good idea!

If you have questions that are not addressed here and would like more information, please contact the Program Coordinator. We're happy to answer your questions and help you achieve the goals that you have for yourself!
